NASSA Education programme

NASSA is committed to providing the young people in its care with the opportunity to further their education through basketball. Where finances allow, we give the young people the opportunity to gain officially recognised Basketball England qualifications in both officiating and coaching.

From the age of 14, participants are given the chance to take the Basketball Level 1 Referee and Table Officiating course. Once they have this, they are given the opportunity to gain experience by officiating in National league fixtures, NASSA friendly fixtures and school league games

From the age of 16, participants are given the chance to take the Basketball Level 1 Coaching Course (UKCC L1). With this qualification, they can become assistant basketball coaches, allowing them to learn directly from NASSA’s national title-winning coaches.

From the age of 18, participants are given the chance to take the Basketball Level 2 Coaching Course (UKCC L2). With this qualification, they can become basketball coaches in their own right, allowing them to put those skills into practice within NASSA, both in our club and our schools programme.

Our aim is to qualify:
• 15 Referee/Table Officials each year
• 10 Level 1 Assistant Basketball Coaches each year
• 5 Level 2 Basketball Coaches each year

As participants move on from NASSA, so naturally do their parents. We need to keep a cohort of parent volunteers qualified in order to support the NASSA coaching team. To achieve this we need to qualify between 4-6 parent volunteers each year.
